Kempele Wild Duckz is a sports club offering floorball and basketball activities for children, youth, and adults in Kempele. Our mission is to promote physical activity and teamwork through engaging sports activities.
Kempele Wild Duckz ry is a general sports club founded in spring 2018 in Kempele, south of Oulu. The club was originally founded to continue floorball activities, which previously functioned as a division under Kempeleen Kiri. In the fall of 2020, basketball was also added to the club’s offer.
The club’s name is shortened to Wild Duckz or KWD.
Wild duck (or mallard) is sinisorsa in Finnish. The club’s name comes from large number of birds in Kempele and especially from municipal coat of arms of Kempele, which has two silver wild ducks flying on a blue background. And since we operate in Kempele (or Zempele?), of course we had to add the letter ”Z” to the name, which Kempele is famous for: Zeppelin, Zimmari, Zemppi Areena, Zatelliitti, Zeniitti, etc. At the very beginning, we thought that the name of the club could be, for example, Zempele Wild Ducks, but we still put that ’Z’ there at the end 😀
The club’s operating philosophy is that everyone can practice and play in a group that matches their goals, and pursue a career as a player under the guidance of competent coaches.
